DIY Soap and Candle Making
Saturday, November 25th 11-5pm
@ the School Farm
Come join us for a day of practical kitchen magic as we turn lye and vegetable
oils into luscious and healthy soap scented with essential oils, and all made off
the grid with pedal power and solar heating. We'll also show how to make simple
beeswax candles with hand built clay holders. Either one makes a perfect homemade
holiday gift, and gives us insight into how the stuff we use everyday is made,
especially the soap!
Activities:
11am-Fire up oven, morning refreshments courtesy of Arizmendi Bakery, and farm work.
12pm - Candle making workshop including hand building our own candle holders with art clay.
1pm - Off the grid Soapmaking workshop using our pedal powered mixer and solar heater
for melting the oils. We'll cover materials saftey, mixing, adding essential oils and setting.
2pm-Break for pizza, and other nutritious, delicious food
3-5pm - More discussion, candle making and hangin' out
Location: Next to the athletic field at the School of the Arts and the Academy
of Arts and Sciences 555 Portola Dr. San Francisco 94131
Enter campus via O'Shaughnessy Blvd @ Portola,
close to 36, 44, 48, and 52 Muni lines, and look for the colorful new signs! From
the parking area off O'Shaughnessy, walk down the hill to the right towards the
athletic field. Limited parking is available further down the driveway at the loading
dock to the left at the fork, but please do not block driveway or park on the grass.
We'll be on the farm the behind the bleachers across the field. See ya there!
