Jamie Collins, Serendipity Farms, info@serendipity-organic-farm. com, (831) 726-9432 Paul Towers, Pesticide Action Network, ptowers [at] panna.org, 916-216-1082 For Immediate Release: October 24, 2012 Central Coast Farmers Push for Food Labeling Santa Cruz, CA – A new network of California farmers, including from the Santa Cruz and Monterey area, is speaking out in favor of GMO labeling this Wednesday. These farmers are making it clear that thousands of California farmers support simple, clear labels on foods sold in the state – like those proposed by Proposition 37. Following the farmers’ statements, Santa Cruz Mayor Lane will share a proclamation about World Food Day and his support for GMO labeling. The organic and conventional farmers are also responding to a series of misleading advertisements that have blanketed television over the past three weeks and are funded by the world’s six largest pesticide corporations. Farmers across California believe that labeling not only serves California farmers’ economic interests, very few of whom actually grow genetically engineered crops, but also maintains honesty and trust with California consumers.
