Hawaii – A Voice for Sovereignty is a documentary about the right of self determination of the indigenous Hawaiian people. The film includes interviews with Native people in their homes and at sacred sites regarding social, ecological and economic rights that have faced the community since the U.S. takeover in 1893.
The issue of sustainability tied with traditional culture as well as modern needs connects the Hawaiian struggle to the indigenous struggles around the world as well as the needs of humanity as a whole. (2009, 84 min.)
