Investigative journalist John Gibler takes us inside the drug war in Mexico, revealing the facts behind the popularized versions of the violence.
In Part 1, Gibler analyzes the $250 to 500 billion a year global business providing illegal drugs everywhere in the world. In the U.S., anti-drug policies have traditionally had racial motives, as detailed in Michelle Alexander's book, The New Jim Crow. In Part 2, Mexican journalist Diego Osorno reveals the war on narcotraficking as a ploy to consolidate the power of President Felipe Calderon -- a war that has escalated killings and crime without diminishing the availability of illegal drugs. Ted Lewis of Global Exchange comments on U.S. policies.
