The attack on women's rights:
How can we fight back and win

Friday, August 31, 7pm
2969 Mission St., San Francisco

Being an ignorant, bigoted, sexist fool like Rep. Todd Akin is no obstacle to seeking high office in the United States these days. Akin, who is running for U.S. Senate in Missouri, recently stated that women who are victims of what he called, “legitimate rape,” don’t get pregnant. Said Akin: “If it's a legitimate (sic) rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Akin is part of the campaign to ban abortion for any reason whatsoever, even for women who are raped or whose lives are endangered by a pregnancy. Funding this reactionary movement are some of the biggest corporations. They promote racism, anti-LGBT bigotry and anti-union policies along with sexism, as a means to ever-greater profits.

Across the country, women’s rights are under severe and coordinated attack. 87% of U.S. counties now have no abortion services. Access to health care, childcare, housing, welfare and other benefits is being cut back. Women and children bear the greatest burden of poverty.

How can these attacks be defeated? How can the rights of women and all working people be defended?

Join for presentations and discussion of these critical issues.
