What are the different possibilities for China – with its ancient tradition and developing desires in today’s global economy – to seek a different development path from Western Europe or the US? The land system, state-owned enterprises, leadership of the Communist Party, legacy of Cultural Revolution, Confucius and Laozi culture, history of semi-feudal, semi-colonial society, centralized rule of the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty... Are these factors against or for the development of socialist relations of production in China? These issues will be explored by Zhun Zhao, who teaches Marxist political economy at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
