MEDICINE MAKING
at the SFBMC in San Francisco 3 Sundays: August 26th, September 2nd & September 9th 11am - 2pm $100 (including materials) This 3-day course will cover medicine making processes useful to herbal pharmacies large & small: infusions (water and oil), decoctions, poultices, fresh plant and dry plant tinctures (including macerations and percolations), mucopolysaccharide extracts, salves and suppositories. Students will learn measuring techniques and ratios, as well as qualitative assessments of the medicine at different points in the process. Participants will take home tinctures and salves made in class. Taught by Joshua Muscat who has 18 years of clinical experience as founder and director of the San Francisco Botanical Medicine Clinic, a low- to no-cost herbal clinic with a strong grounding in ethics and access. He has studied at Michael Moore's Southwest School of Botanical Medicine, the Pacific School of Herbal Medicine, the California School of Traditional Hispanic Herbalism, the Blue Otter School of Herbal Medicine, and the South Star School of Traditional Tonic Chinese Cooking.
