Rise To Power, Being the First Native American Running For Richmond CA City Council 2012
My position being as a the first Native American Candidate in the history of Richmond, CA. running for Richmond City Council 2012
Dear Friends,
By grace of The Creator and the goodwill of my community, I humbly announce my intent to run as your Native Candidate for the Richmond City Council.
My fellow Richmondites, please ask yourselves this: Does this current Richmond City Council represent YOU? In my travels and conversations throughout the City of Richmond, I do not believe this is so any longer. There is discontent and disgust at what the Richmond City Council has become.
The current Richmond City Council finds itself mired in petty bickering and base partisanship. Too often, the discussions are personal and exclusive when they should be all-encompassing and inclusive. City business should not be self-serving and for an anointed few. City business should be for the greater good of the City of Richmond. Where has its Pride and Purpose gone?
The dysfunction of the current City Council — arguing with each other, disrespect for their office and their constituents, serving only themselves and a narrow set of followers — is of use to NONE. This nearsighted mindset, trapped within council chambers, is neglecting the broader vision beyond its stuffy walls. It does not lift Richmond. It lowers EVERYTHING: the council, the debate, the process, the people.
Other members of the Richmond City Council may have lost sight of their Purpose, but I will remind them: we work FOR the people of Richmond. It is from the results we can deliver as elected leaders to ALL of Richmond that we derive Pride. As your Native Candidate, if elected, my service will be dedicated to affirming Pride and Purpose for the City of Richmond, for ALL Richmondites.
My goal is to raise the bar, see above our standards, and lift the City of Richmond. By the words of Chief Sitting Bull, “Let us put our minds together and see what life can make for our children.” With your help and your vote this November, Richmond can be that City of Pride and Purpose once more
In the Spirit of Unity Among Our People,
May we all rise to power!
