Grammy nominated musician Maimouna Youssef will headline the first annual Sisters Unite Summit: Building Strong Families, June 3-10, 2012

(Oakland, CA, May 23, 2012) – Sisters Unite is announcing their historic first event, the week-long Sisters Unite Summit 2012, aimed at building strong families through supporting women, the base of the family unit. Sisters Unite is a national network that supports women by encouraging their progression, professionalism, and mental health. This summit will provide, information and resources on health and wellness, educational classes and panels, community building tactics, and will honor women leaders from the community.

June 7th brings the highlight event of the summit, an all queen line up, Brown Suga Serenades, headlined by Grammy nominated artist, Maimouna Youssef. Media representatives are invited for a pre-show meet and greet with the cast of Brown Suga Serenades between 4-6:00 pm. Other artists include Isa Starr, Queen Nyoka, and Fajr Scott. On June 9th, their free community event is featuring a special screening of ‘Fam Bam’, a film by Bay Area native Kevin Epps. This event involves discussions about building strong families and is a partnership between Building Communities and Families, The Black Star Liner Coalition, The Oscar Grant Foundation, and The Kenneth Harding Jr. Foundation.

The closing event on Sunday June 10th, The Power of a Woman: Fashion.Music.Hair.Culture., is a tribute to strong powerful women! B With You Ent, Lala Yone of E.Y.E Wear, Torrid Tresses, Boutique Beauty and Beads will collaborate on this powerful red carpet event!
