The Gaza strip has a population of 1.5 Million and is one of the most densely populated places on earth. 2/3 of it's residents are refugees. In 2009 the Israeli military invaded the coastal enclave, killing over 1400 Palestinians and destroying much of the local infrastructure. The area remains under Israeli and Egyptian enforced siege and limits are placed on food, consumer goods, and construction supplies allowed in and out.

UC Santa Cruz Lecturer Tony Hoffman will be discussing his work and research with children in Gaza. The talk will focus on the ways in which trauma enters their lives, and the ways that people of Gaza show resilience under difficult circumstances. The talk will be accompanied by a showing of the MECA collection of Children’s art from Gaza.
