Inequality Through Soccer
Kyle Honaker

There can be many different inequalities that can be derived from playing a sport in which competitiveness is common.Being an athlete for seventeen years now I have experienced this problem numerous times and feel as if it is a topic well worth focusing on. From college sports to my club soccer games I have witnessed a growing number of racial, verbal abuse.Furthermore we see racism on the worlds most prestigious soccer stage. This was proven this year at a soccer match in Italy when fans heckling the away team yelled racist comments toward one of the African players as the away team walked through to the stadium. This is a common theme throughout much of world soccer and surfaces inequalities that we see amongst us everyday. Following the aftermath of the growing rate of these forms of racist incidents, F.I.F.A. ( The International Federation of Association Football ), have been promoting “ Anti-Racist” propaganda through media and advertisement to raise awareness on Inequalities throughout the world of soccer. As it is common to notice these promotional advertisement signs surrounding soccer fields home to Europe's most accomplished soccer teams, movements such as these serve as an instrumental step in the right direction to end world racism and decrease inequality not only in soccer, but all sports throughout the world.
