In the course of more than five decades, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen has become one of the world's most respected film events - a place where filmmakers and artists ranging from Roman Polanski to Cate Shortland, from George Lucas to Pipilotti Rist have presented their first films.

Oberhausen has managed to instigate various political and aesthetical developments, for instance through the Oberhausen Manifesto, perhaps the most important group document in the history of German film. Careful programming and a pioneering choice of subjects has helped the Festival to build up its exclusive position in an increasingly unpredictable market.

As the 58th Oberhausen festival tours the world, the Goethe-Institut presents festival highlights of the German Competition 2011 and German MuVi Award 2011 sections over two consecutive Wednesdays:

Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 7 pm
2011 International Short Film Festival Oberhausen On-Tour
German Competition, 81 min.

Nuclear policy, international financial cycles, returning soldiers: the works chosen here from the 2011 German Competition participate in the country’s current sociopolitical discourse, offering unusual aesthetics and in some cases radical viewpoints. A programme on the state of the nation.

Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 7 pm
2011 International Short Film Festival Oberhausen On-Tour
German MuVi Award 2011, 50 min.

In 1999 Oberhausen introduced the world's first festival prize for music videos made in Germany – the MuVi Award. An international jury nominates the award winners.
