Human Agenda, a local non-profit dedicated to human rights, announces its support for the Raise the Wage campaign for a living wage in San Jose. The campaign was initiated by the Campus Alliance for Economic Justice (CAFE-J), a student group at San Jose State University that turned a class assignment on social justice into a powerful ballot initiative. CAFE-J is working with the San Jose Living Wage Coalition to gather petition signatures for a ballot measure to raise the city’s minimum wage from $8 to $10 an hour. The students have been working over the last four weeks to gather 30,000 petition signatures by March 26.

Human Agenda has decided to support the efforts of CAFE-J and the San Jose Living Wage Coalition by committing to gather 500 petition signatures. We invite all Human Agenda supporters and community members to join us in a signature gathering action on Saturday, March 24th. We will meet at 9:00 am at the Human Agenda office (2175 The Alameda, Suite 103, San Jose, CA 95126) for a short training and to get organized, then head out to gather signatures.

If you would like to support this initiative by gathering signatures in your work place or within your community, or if you would like to learn about other ways to support this campaign, please get in touch with our board member: Ana Maria Candela (ana.m.candela[at]gmail.com).
