SF City Attorney fighting to make Tenderloin safer.

On Monday January 20, 2012 San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera held a press conference at the corner of Turk and Leavenworth Streets in the Cities Tenderloin to publicly announce he is suing the owners of several markets who are and have remained public nuisances. The owners of the Barah Market(aka Azaal Market), which is located at the corners of Turk and Leavenworth, and the woners of the Razan Deli at 391 Ellis street are being sued in a civil complaint for “facilitating rampant illicit drug trafficking in close proximity to schools, playgrounds, daycare centers and senior housing.” The markets are also havens for the selling of stolen goods or property. City Attorney Dennis Herrera says “The Markets we are suing today have played central roles in drug dealing and other crimes that have afflicted this neighborhood for too long.” He also says those markets are “diminishing the quality of life” in the Tenderloin.
Comment from photographer/reporter: When I got out of my car at the corner of Hyde and Golden gate in front of the US Post office I was asked by two men if I wanted to buy drugs. Since the US federal government insists on busting up Medicinal Marijuana Dispensaries then why are there drugs being sold in front of the US Post Office at the corner of Hyde and Golden Gate?
I also noticed that several individuals tried to disrupt the press conference.
