Raise Your Voice/Proud and Pro-Choice!
15 second video of pro-choice march to counter the religious bigots bussed in to the city today. See Photos too.
The San Jose Mercury reported that pro-choice protesters tried to block a large crowd of anti-abortion marchers as they passed Powell Street on their way to the Ferry Building. This video and photos show the buildup to that encounter.

On January 21, 2012, for the 8th year in a row, there were the usual 10,000 Catholic Church school children, child-molesting priests, Knights of Columbus fascist small business organization and profoundly ignorant Catholics who waved expensive multi-color printed signs while carrying beads and crosses, ending their first peasant parade on Market Street (and should be the last on our streets) at the foot of Market Street where they were greated by monitors in expensive uniforms made specially for the occasion. This fascist mobilization to provide more cannon fodder for blood for oil wars and remove women from the workplace as they breed endless babies they do not want and cannot feed included lots of San Franciscans, including the University of San Francisco. This is not the peasants from the Central Valley; this is the San Francisco Catholic Church and the surrounding counties.
Only one pro-abortion person was at the foot of Market Street on this beautiful sunny day to great this anti-science, anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage backward peasant throng who are clearly being used to promote a fascist agenda. I see from the pictures a handful of people protested and attempted to stop this fascist march on our main street. There needs to be a much larger turnout. Now that this fascist gang has been promoted by the Democratic Party's permit providers from the Embarcadero to Market Street, it should be easier to get more people to show up at Powell and Market or 4th and Market. The tourists at the foot of Market Street were stunned to see such backwardness and were outraged that there were no buses or trains on Market Street and were not happy when they heard the cause of the lack of public transportation, namely an anti-abortion march escorted by the Democratic Party's police in bats and hats, riot gear. The police motorcycles and bikes were stationed at every intersection on Market Street from 12 noon or so onward. The SF police make $100,000 a year and up plus benefits, and those on motorcycles and bikes make more as they get "hazard pay." They know that the pro-abortion crowd is always a tiny handful, no threat to this peasant parade, so the only reason for such a large, riot police presence is because they support the anti-abortion lunatics and hoodlums, and so does the rotten, election-frauding Democratic Party of San Francisco, whose current mayor, Ed Lee, sits in office with election fraud, aided by an anti-Communist Cuban-American gusano district attorney who has the evidence but has done nothing but frame an opponent of that election fraud, the current sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, on misdemeanor domestic violence charges which Mirkarimi's wife does not support. Domestic violence is a social worker-marriage counselor issue; it does not belong in the police state court system at all.
The reality is that 87% of US counties have NO ABORTION CLINIC; that in 2007 the Supreme Court outlawed late term (after 6 months) abortions; that many states have all kinds of restrictions including waiting periods, parental consent laws and the like and in practically every statewide election year in California and many other states, we have to work to barely defeat various anti-abortion measures, such as parental consent laws and waiting periods.
At the federal level, we have a Democratic president Obama who has just restricted teenage girls' access to emergency contraception, and a House of Representatives which has voted last fall to deny women access to life-saving abortions. This House of Representatives is up for a vote in its entirety this fall, and it is doubtful that it will improve because the Democratic Party is not 100% pro-choice, and clearly, neither is its reactionary president; there are lots of Democrats like US Senator Majority leader Harry Reid who are anti-abortion. Only Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party are 100% pro-abortion.
Next year will be the 40th anniversay of the Roe v Wade, the 1973 decision legalizing abortion in the US, guaranteeing women a right to a safe and legal abortion. Let us remember that the majority opinion was written by Justice Blackmun, a Nixon appointee; and a Kennedy appointee, Justice White, dissented, proving that it is mass movements that make the difference. Our peace movement against the war against Vietnam was the umbrella for the extension of the civil rights movements to women and gay people, and it was this rebirth of the women's liberation movement, which had subsided with the winning of women's suffrage in this country in 1920, that made possible our victory in 1973 with Roe v Wade. Here are some chants you can practice to prepare for hopefully a PRO-ABORTION MARCH ON MARKET STREET as we had in 1989:
Right to life, your name's a lie;
You don't care if women die.
Keep your rosaries off our ovaries.
Science means knowledge; religion is superstition;
Evolution is a fact; abortion is a right;
Gay marriage is a civil right.
There is no supreme being; LABOR CREATES ALL WEALTH.

People are lulled into thinking that abortion, contraception and women's health services are readily available. The people who support choice in the streets are not backed by the huge coffers of the Catholic Church. Groups like BACORR don't have big bucks to rent buses and bus in out-of towners.
Groups that support choice need to step up. Planned Parenthood in particular. They have money to get kids out with clipboards asking for donations, but they have refused to participate in a pro-choice march in the community for many years now.
WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF?
I call on NOW, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and Ms Magazine to organize a national presence at this march next year in SF. If not, call them out for sitting on their butts. Don't donate to the big orgs. Do support local groups who call for important legislation to out Pregnancy Crisis Centers and their misleading practises.

How many women were denied access to "life-saving" abortions last year?
How are social workers going to take down a drunken abuser when she is constantly beating her girlfriend because if the OP thinks the social worker is going to show up and fist bump the girlfriend of the abuser and talk the abuser down through role-playing and empowerment talking points, then do us all a favor and retro-abort yourself off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Stupidity and Arrogance are a dangerous mix.
