Save KPFA's Dan Siegel: "Pacifica Executive Director Engelhardt Has His Support"

by Cathy
Despite Save KPFA's investment of $12,000 in postcards pillorying Pacifica board member Tracy Rosenberg and said at the 1/7 KPFA board meeting that Engelhardt has "made progress" and he has no intention of trying to remove her. Did he read the postcard?
Text of Siegel's statement : audio available at http://www.kpftx.org
"I do think the Executive Director {of Pacifica} has made progress in several areas, has the support of most of the national board and that there is no movement or intention to remove her that I can see".

Text of Save KPFA website at http://www.savekpfa.org from a page called "why recall?"
"Our only path forward is to directly remove supporters of Pacifica Executive Director Arlene Engelhardt from Pacifica’s Board".

"Under Pacifica’s bylaws, KPFA listeners may vote to recall only representatives to the KPFA Local Station Board. The four KPFA local delegates who sit on the Pacifica National Board (PNB) are Laura Prives, Dan Siegel, Andrea Turner and Tracy Rosenberg. Rosenberg is the only KPFA delegate to the PNB who has supported Engelhardt. Arlene Engelhardt is not an elected representative, she is an employee hired and overseen by the Pacifica National Board. We have to change that board in order to remove her"

Looks like "Save KPFA" will have to recall Siegel as well as Rosenberg.

I had thought to comment when the article went up, but not much to add. Siegel's usual double-talk about there being "no intention to remove Engelhardt" at the same time he's strongly endorsing the disinforming recall mailer clearly calling for her removal is typical. But his saying that there's no campaign when there clearly is isn't EXACTLY an ENDORSEMENT of Engelhardt - just his micro-careful way of speaking to both sides of people's impressions. Maybe by "current" he simply meant "in the now," but not in the next ten minutes...
It's recorded at http://www.kpftx.org/archive.php#kpfa120107 .
I can't remember if it's in part 1 or 2.
