Peoples Park Meeting Re University Bulldozes The Park

Date:
Wednesday, January 11, 2012
Time:
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Event Type:
Meeting
Organizer/Author:
Mary Ann
Location Details:
Cafe Mediterraium, 2475 Telegraph Ave, (between Dwight Way & Haste St) in Berkeley

Last week the University of Berkeley bulldozed 1/4 of Peoples Park causing thousands of dollars of damage by taking out historical trees, bushes, landscaping including The Council Grove, the place where Peoples Park was planned and started in the 1960's.

The bulldozing was done secretly according to a University police officer and without required legal notice in order to avoid confrontation with the Berkeley community particularly Park activists, the students who were on vacation and after Occupy Berkeley had been evicted and had scattered.

We as individuals and members of activist groups in the Park including Food Not Bombs, Catholic Worker, Occupy Berkeley and the Peoples Park Forever Committee have come together to see redress from the University in a legal and political manner to restore everything taken out of the park and make the University pay politically and financially for what they have done.
