Pacifica fails to mail recall ballots to listeners, missing its own deadline of December 3

Pacifica fails to mail recall ballots to listeners, missing its own deadline of December 30

Thanks to the many KPFA listeners who contacted SaveKPFA this week after receiving our postcard urging a YES vote on the recall of Pacifica treasurer and KPFA board member .

We believe that Pacifica has missed its own deadline to mail ballots -- December 30. According to procedures in the network's by-laws, ballots should have been mailed to all current KPFA listener-members between December 15 and 30. In addition,
Listeners Sharon Maldonado, Kim Waldron, Ying Lee & Barrie Mason (l to r) delivering petitions to KPFA's board.
Pacifica's executive director Arlene Engelhardt told SaveKPFA that the network had planned to do so by December 30. So far, we have received no confirmation from Pacificaas to when ballots will be mailed.

Among those endorsing the recall are:
Aileen Alfandary, News Co-Director
| Tina Bachemin, KPFA Reporter | Larry Bensky, Pacifica National Affairs Correspondent (1987-2007) | Dana Frank, Professor of History, UCSC | Brian Edwards-Tiekert, KPFA News | Mitch Jeserich, Letters and Politics | Rose Ketabchi, Free Speech Radio News | Ying Lee, Asian-Americans for Peace and Justice | Sasha Lilley, Against the Grain (Shop Steward, CWA Local 9415) | Philip Maldari, The Sunday Show (Shop Steward, CWA Local 9415) | Joanna Manqueros, Music of the World | Diana Martinez, Letters and Politics | Lynn Hollander Savio, Mario Savio Memorial Lecture & Young Activist Award | Dan Siegel, Activist and KPFA Board Member ...and many others are flowing in.
Would you want to spend the holidays like this?

They just keep it up. There was a recall election supervisor all set to go. (needed for ballot-sending) This even came up at the board meeting dominated by SAVEKPFA yesterday. Rosenberg hoped to get this over with before Christmas. So SAVEKPFA didn't like the recall sup, who had, in full public view, scan-checked the ballots and more in the past 2 elections (the last one of which SAVEKPFA "won" by violating fair campaign practices on-air and off, as is amply documented. )

SAVEKPFa want to pick their own sup. and haven't done so yet. But it works for them to blame "Pacifica management" for this.

As George Bush proved and now SAVEKPFA continues to show, say something enough, even in the face of obvious countering facts, and most people will believe it. They count on most relying on the endorsement of those pristine names. It has been a shock to emerge from the cynicism of realizing Larry Bensky and others endorse such practices. I choose to believe Bensky is just not up on it "no time" for it. For example, when he was plunked by them and doubtless his air-time-loving self onto the the air to disparage Engelhardt -- upon hearing her actual salary on-air for the first time, even he had to say it was low for this type job. so it goes... And even more than with the sleep-inducing mainstream Karl Rove "news" stories, SAVEKPFA count on jabbing into listeners' long-term sickness with trying to sort out the sordid details. Much easier and healthier-feeling to throw up hands and throw out the whole damned mess. (Including perhaps the ballots, if they ever do arrive, so that the only voters will be the army of SAVEKPFA falsely-"informed" enlistees.)

Virginia, you are again spinning things. SaveKPFA has long called for an impartial recall process, as described in this petition to Pacifica:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/pacifica_recall_oversight/

To the Pacifica National Board,

As KPFA listener-members, we demand you immediately delegate responsibility for running the recall vote on Pacifica treasurer Tracy Rosenberg to a neutral third party (such as the American Association of Arbitrators, or California State Mediation and Conciliation), and have the election conducted promptly.

To maintain good faith with KPFA's listener-members, over 800 of whom have signed the recall petition against Rosenberg, Pacifica must avoid delaying the vote or manipulating the process to benefit its political allies. Even the appearance of such behavior will be detrimental to the station and the network.

I didn't click on your site to see what you supposedly "called" for. There was an election sup proven neutral. You didn't want them, so the election was delayed. By YOU. Since many of your own stars have patiently edged their ways into "leadership" positions in many union groups etc., it's not beyond belief to imagine your big name endorsers hold sway with some of those "neutral" arbitrators as well. But instead, I'm hearing you're pushing for someone with a position in the Democratic Party. And this campaign to rush things makes it harder for Pacifica not to "choose" your chosen "neutral. Yes, I know, Democrats are really great so many times, especially the progressive ones. The trouble is when it gets so far into this "by ANY means" method that it becomes ok to defame excellent board members and ally with the NOT so progressive Dems to take this valuable resource. I've been volunteering in political campaigns since I was 15 - mostly for Democrats, or some to the left of that. It was clear from the start that these politicians will do anything anything to win, including taking credit in the wink of an eye for the backbreaking work of others.

Why do you want KPFA run by this group who have demonstrated they're capable of warmongering with the worst of them? An elected board and fair elections at least makes possible a check on that enormous potential conflict-of-interest that nearly sold KPFA down the river in the 90s.
by to benefit Pacifica
So now Pacifica has a board that is NO potential check on selling KPFA down the river, since it is dominated by people who are bleeding the station dry - Tracy Rosenberg, LaVarn Williams, and Arlene Engelhardt.

Why is Pacifica's central office hiring people while KPFA still hasn't gotten any laid off positions replaced? If all were well financially at KPFA (like those made-up reports that are posted here) then why doesn't KPFA even have a phone receptionist? Why do listeners get no response to their emails?
by Foolishness
KPFA has 5 times the staff and 4 times the budget of the national office. It's KPFA that bled itself dry by spending far more money than it was bringing in for years. Rosenberg stopped it right before all hell broke loose and the payroll checks started bouncing. She deserves to be thanked, not vilified.

What did you think would happen if you spent 4.0 million and only booked 3.5 million for 2 years in a row?
