The Chevron Corporation is currently appealing its property tax assessment and trying to get the county to pay them a refund of $150 million dollars at hearings in Martinez. If ordered to pay these refunds County, City and sachool districts would have to slash vital health, education, and public services and lay off employes.
Chevron, which has long has reduced property taxes thanks to loop holes in Proposition 13, is able to hire an army of expensive lawyers to try to bully the county into accepting a settlement. Community groups, unions, and everyone who cares about justice say it is time to stop the 1% from bleeding the rest of us. We are the 99%, Chevron is the 1%!

The Martinez refinery is apparently owned by Shell:

I know that is was owned by Tesoro a few years back, but don't know the history of owners transferring the facility, but I don't think it has ever been a Chevron facility like those near Point Richmond and north.

The announcement really isn't very clear. It's confusing because it doesn't explain what's at 651 Pine Street in Martinez. Turns out that's the county administration building, where the hearings about this are presumably being held. So the protest is at the county administration building in Martinez, not at the refinery in Richmond. I would assume that there is a hearing that day, but I don't see any meetings listed, so I can't tell if this is a random date to protest, or if there really is a hearing.
