Join the Oakland Tribune at noon PT Saturday, November 19, for a live chat Saturday featuring Spencer Mills, also known on Twitter as OakFoSho, as he discusses his unlikely rise as an international social media sensation for his live streaming of the aftermath of the Occupy Oakland general strike
Mills, who is not a professional journalist, continued to chronicle the evolution of Occupy Oakland, including the recent dismantling of the encampment at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, a story that has captured the attention of people around the world.
The panel discussion will touch on a number of topics, including how technology empowers non-journalists to participate in the narrative of a story that is also being told through the lens of traditional news outlets.
The panel discussion will be held 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakland Public Library, Main Branch, 125 14th St. inside the Bradley C. Walters Community Meeting Room. The event is free, but space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Also joining the conversation will be Oakland Tribune staff writer Angela Woodall, who has been among a team of reporters covering this story.
