Programmers at Pacifica-owned WFPW say "no confidence" in general manager

More than 80 programmers at Pacifica-owned WPFW in Washington DC say they have "no confidence" in their general manager, who was (like KPFA's interim GM Andrew Phillips) installed by executive director Arlene Engelhardt.

John Hughes was selected by WPFW's local board and is the permanent general manager. He was the local board's first choice.

He's running into problems because he is trying to change WPFW's programming to improve it and Pacifica programmers get feral whenever anyone tries to change things.

The man has been on the job at WPFW in D for most of this year. Here is what he did.

Station Revenue increased $161,000 from 2010 to 2011
Station Expenses dropped $228,000 from 2010 to 2011
Financial performance improved by more than $395,000 from a big loss in 2010 to a small operating surplus in 2011

As usual, Pacifica programmers reward incompetence, corruption and patronage and punish talent, integrity and competence in management. Nothing new there.
