Save KPFA Recall of Tracy Rosenberg: 43% of Petition Signatures Fraudulent
After the completion of membership verification, over 40% of the signatures collected by Save KPFA in their attempt to recall LSB member Tracy Rosenberg, turned out to be fraudulent (not current station members).
After collecting signatures on a recall petition for months, Save KPFA was informed that 349 of the recall petitions submitted were invalid, 43% of the total.
The required margin for the recall election of 2% of the listenership was narrowly achieved - by only 36 votes - after months of signature collecting efforts.
The recall election is expected to cost KPFA $10,000-$15,000

KPFA's database people checked enough of the signatures to ensure it met the level of support needed -- that's 2% of membership or just over 400 valid signatures. Then they declared the petition valid and it moved on to being implemented by Pacifica. They didn't waste their time looking up every signature past the number required (why should they?)
SaveKPFA turned in way, way more signatures than the minimum needed for validation -- those were gravy. There was no need to verify all of them as the petition easily made the minimum required.
Pacifica has said it will follow its own rules and send ballots by December 30 (though it hasn't yet).
Spin in one thing, but making up stuff of whole cloth is just silly.
