Labor Day in San Francisco (part two)

by Charles Slay (slaycslay [at] aol.com)
Members of UNITE HERE Local 2 and their supporters gathered in San Francisco's Union Square on September 5, 2011, for a march and rally to high light local 2's efforts to reach a contract with the Hyatt Regency and the Grand Hyatt. Contract negotiations have stalled over the contract's "solidarity Clause" that would allow union hotel workers to support non-Union workers in their labor struggles.

Some of the many unions that showed their support were; the International Longshore and warehouse Union (ILWU), The Teamsters, and the American Federation of teachers, as well as the Labor Studies Department at S.F. State University.

Mr. Norton was a bellman at the Hotel Frank until Wells Fargo took over in foreclosure and handed over management to another company. According to Norton's account, all employees were put on probation no matter how long their service. Norton won a judgement, but it's on appeal.
