Potluck at 6 PM precedes film. In 1986, a reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Ukraine exploded and began spewing radioactive smoke and gas. More than 40,000 residents in the immediate area were exposed to fallout 100 times greater than the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan. But this nuclear disaster had just begun. Based on top-secret government documents, this films reveals a systematic cover-up of the true scope of the disaster.
Afterward, Mickey Huff, Director of Project Censored and Professor of History and Social Science, will lead a discussion on the global impacts of Fukushima, and the politics of the nuclear industry and corporate media. Second in a monthly series of 4: The Planet at at Crossroads: Disaster or Solartopia?
