Tell BART to protect passenger free speech.
..........................
Dear ACLU supporter,

Pop quiz: where did a government agency
shut down cell service last week to disrupt a political protest?
You wouldn’t expect the answer to be right here in San Francisco.
And you also wouldn’t expect that BART might shut down cell service again tonight to disrupt a protest. But that’s the disturbing reality.
Join the ACLU in telling the transit agency – No More Cell Phone Censorship on BART.
We need you to join us in speaking up loud and clear against cell phone censorship and demand that BART commit to a policy to safeguard speech.
All over the world people are using mobile devices to organize protests against repressive regimes, and we rightly criticize governments that respond by shutting down cell service as anti-democratic and a violation of the right to free speech and assembly. Tell BART we are not willing to tolerate silencing of protest here in the United States.
Shutting down access to mobile communications is the wrong response to political protests, whether it’s halfway around the world or right here in San Francisco.

Thank you for taking action today.

Sincerely,

Nicole A. Ozer
