The Diego Rivera Gallery is proud to present Transcultural Circumstances: Expressions of art through an interwoven culture.
Transcultural Circumstances is an exhibition that investigates the lives of three artists and how they express themselves within the underlying thread of crossed-cultural experiences. Using traditional oil paint, video and mixed media sculpture these three artists have practices and create art representative of today’s contemporary hybrid community. Post-colonial issues are questioned and the neocultural statements of these three contemporary artists are voiced under the shadow of the famous Diego Rivera mural The Making of a Fresco Showing the Building of a City (”Making a Fresco”)(1931) in the Diego Rivera Gallery within the beautiful campus of the San Francisco Art Institute.
The showcased artists include: Cat U-Thasoonthorn, Douglas Yee, and Pallavi Govindnathan. This exhibition is curated by Orlando Lacro.
Live Jazz music by the Willard Lacro Quartet and a Modern dance performance by Amanda Lacro and Kelsi Auday will be provided during the opening reception.
The Diego Rivera Gallery is located at 800 Chestnut Street, San Francisco Ca. 94133
An opening reception will take place from 5:00 - 7:00pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2011.
