A Plan To Pass A Bill To Raise The Debt Limit

by John Thielking
Here is a plan. Will it work? Write or call your Congressperson about it and find out!
This is my open letter to Dennis Kucinich (reply [at] kucinich.us):

Dear Dennis Kucinich:

I think I have hit on the key reason why none of the proposals to raise the debt ceiling have yet to clear Congress and make it to the President's desk for his signature. Unlike nearly every other piece of legislation that is passed by Congress, these proposals have no Pork Barrel Projects. Pork is often used to get the votes of dissident Congresspeople so that legislation can be passed. With no Pork in any of the debt limit proposals, they are all doomed to failure no matter how reasonable they may seem on the surface. So here is my plan to get something passed:

Offer to raise the debt limit by $2.7 trillion dollars with no conditions other than the following:

Every Congressperson is allowed to attach an ammendment to the bill that will help to create jobs in his or her district. This could be a Workfare program like we had durring the Great Depression or it could just be a regular public works project or defense spending on a special project. If a Congressperson does not pledge to vote for the package, then their ammendment is stripped from the bill. Give that a try. You probably have 2 days to get this passed after you receive this message. Good luck.

Sincerely,

John Thielking

Will this work? Who knows.

The House is set to vot on the current plan by 4pm Pacific Time today. A full economic recovery will mostly solve the deficit problem. We should default rather than have the Republicans and Tea Party win their extortion battle, which will enable further cuts in a simillar fashion in the future. This will continue until the Tea Party is able to drown the baby govt in the bathtub. One Tea Party House member talking on CNN right now is saying that the current proposal is only the first step.
