AC Transit Changes Procurement Policy to Support Local Businesses
AC Transit changes procurement policies to support local business.
One year ago, AC Transit set out to make sure all of its business practices would be helpful for disadvantaged business enterprises as well as small and local businesses enterprises. Last week, AC Transit created a plan that will ensure that this will happen.
The new policy is intended to increase the amount contracts going to small local businesses. Some of the new policies would ensure that all procurements of materials, supplies, or equipment that exceed $100,000 would involve either a disadvantaged business enterprise or a small and local business enterprise. If the procurements of such services are less than $100,000, the AC Transit is committed to ensuring that at least one disadvantaged or small and local business enterprise is involved in the transaction.
In addition, AC Transit is dedicated to making sure that this new procurement policy will be advertised extensively to all such businesses to ensure that they have every opportunity to take part.
AC Transit Director Joel Young has been spearheading these efforts for the agency and stated that, “I am proud of this new assembly of policy changes. In a difficult economic environment, it is only right that AC Transit do everything in its power to support the local economy and domestic businesses in our service district. The small and local businesses ultimately form the backbone of our community’s economic strength, so I am pleased that this new policy is fully including these businesses.”
