7/9 Successful SF Libya peace & prisoner support demonstrations

by &
Some 50 (my estimate) to 200 (KPFA's estimate on 7/9 6 p.m. news) people turned out for a 12 noon Saturday July 9 rally at Powell and Market, San Francisco, to end the US nuclear war against Libya, where our tax dollars are paying for "depleted" uranium bombing of Libya for their oil and water. Around 12:30 p.m., we marched to the Civic Center to join the support rally for the hunger striking prisoners at Pelican Bay Concentration Camp.

We handed out all our leaflets to the people waiting in the cable car line and coming from the Powell Street metro station. Our picketline was given a tremendous boost of energy by the rousing speeches of the young people at the microphone. WE NEED TO SEE MORE YOUNG PEOPLE AT OUR DEMONSTRATIONS AS IT IS YOUR FUTURE THAT IS BEING DESTROYED BY THESE BLOOD FOR OIL WARS. We need you at the microphone, to pass out leaflets, to carry signs and to organize demonstrations. We, your political parents, who seemed to be the majority at this demonstration, soon will not be able to do this anymore.

The Washington DC rally for peace in Libya is seen in pictures at:

AS WE DEMONSTRATED, DEMOCRAT OBAMA WAS BUSY CUTTING SOCIAL SECURITY TO PAY FOR THESE WARS, EVEN THOUGH SOCIAL SECURITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEFICIT. Here is the message I received in my Email yesterday from http://www.strengthensocialsecurity.org/
"The Social Security COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) helps your benefits keep pace with inflation. The current COLA is already too low because it does not account for rising health care costs, which hurt seniors and people with disabilities the most."

"Now they want to make it even lower. Under the proposal, after 10 years the average benefit will be cut by about $600 a year. After 20 years the cut will be about $1,000 a year. The typical Social Security benefit is only $13,000 a year."
*******
We marched on Market Street through a devastated, boarded up area that looked like the desperate poverty-sticken hellhole the Democrat-Republicans want the whole country to be so the capitalist class can pay us slave wages or nothing at all to maximize their profits, to join with the hunger striking prisoner support rally at the Civic Center. While Democrat Obama is busy allowing the existence of Guantanamo and all other fascist concentration camps around the world, Democratic Governor Jerry Brown is doing the same thing here in California in the 33 concentration camp prisons where there is no rehabilitation, and openly torturing people in the hellhole known as Pelican Bay Security Housing Unit. When you call your elected representatives, the state senators and assembly persons at

and

PLEASE TELL THEM OR THEIR VOICE MAIL:
1. CLOSE PELICAN BAY PRISON TODAY
2. Move all prisoners in all prisons to a prison in their county of origin so they can be near their family and friends for serious rehabilitation.
3. Demand that all prisoners under age 50 be given full free medical care and job training for decent paying jobs so they are out of prison in less than 5 years and that the laws should be changed so that no sentence is greater than 5 years with a requirement that job training for decent paying jobs, including a complete high school education, be part of the rehabilitation sentence.
4. Demand all prisoners over age 50 be given full free medical care and a lifelong pension to live outside of prison in an environment that suits their needs which for many of these old prisoners will mean constant care, mental and physical.
5. Demand that all drugs be legalized so as to get them off the street as they will have no street market value and so as to end the prison-feeding machine.
6. Demand that the death penalty be abolished immediately.
7. Demand that if these legislators are not interested in cooperating with all of the above, they should resign immediately.
