Co-op Members don Statue of Liberty Crowns
Saturday in continuing battle with Co-op Board
With Statue of Liberty crowns to remind the Co-op Board that the Sacramento Natural Foods Natural Foods Co-op is a democracy, Co-op Members continue to educate their fellow members about their rights.
Members will be distributing leaflets and talking to Members and shoppers outside the store this Saturday, July 9 from 10-11:30am.
“It is interesting that the Co-op Board and now the Sacramento Bee want to tell Co-op Members what they can and can’t decide,” said Maggie Coulter, who sponsored the Human Rights Initiative that the Co-op Board has refused to put on the upcoming ballot.
“All we are doing is following the Bylaws and all we want is democracy and a vote,” says Coulter. “Members have every right under the Bylaws to put initiatives on the ballot.”
“It is up to Co-op Members to decide if they want their store to stop carrying products from China, Israel or anyplace else because that is not sustainable or because they want to support international human rights efforts, like the one that helped end apartheid in South Africa. Members control the Co-op, not the Board, not the Bee, not the Israeli lobby, not Monsanto.”
