"Hidden in Plain Sight - Media Workers for Social Change" by Peter M, 6/12/11: audio

by dave id
For the better part of the last two years, Peter M has been conducting interviews and creating a series of profiles on alternative and activist media workers in the Bay Area. On Sunday, June 12th, Peter was invited to speak about his still-ongoing project at the weekly Breakfast Forum at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in San Francisco. Discussed was the development of the project itself and the work of the twelve individuals who will be highlighted in Peter's forthcoming book, expected to be released at the end of this year or in early 2012. As he speaks, Peter's unique photographs of each media worker are projected on the wall. While time was relatively short to discuss the rich backgrounds and activities of all of his subjects in great detail, Peter tells several intriguing stories about historic events both domestic and international, and time is allowed for questions from the audience at the conclusion of his talk. Ten chapters have been published on Indybay thus far. The full twelve media workers to be highlighted in the completed series are Tracy Rosenberg of Media Alliance and KPFA/Pacifica; Bradley of Santa Cruz IMC and Bay Area Indymedia; activist and photographer Bill Hackwell; artist and organizer Favianna Rodriguez; videographer Josh Wolf; music producer Greg Landau; broadcast journalist Larry Bensky of KPFA; journalist and activist JR Valrey of the SF Bay View and KPFA; photographer and attorney Geoff King; Elizabeth Gonzalez of Silicon Valley De-Bug and New America Media; filmmaker Maureen Gosling; and singer Manny Martinez.

As a side note, the Breakfast Forum program features a quote from a person of interest each week. This week's quote was from Andy Warhol (1928-1987):

"They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself."
