Shame On Frameline: Get Out of Bed With Israeli Apartheid

by QUIT! (info [at] quitpalestine.org)
Responding to call by Palestinian Queers for BDS, Bay Area queers prepare to protest Film Festival PINKWASHING of Israeli war crimes

The San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival has accepted sponsorship and money from the Israeli consulate for the second year in a row. Every Palestinian queer organization in the world, along with a number of local and international queer groups, have demanded that the festival presenter, Frameline, stand up for human rights and international law by refusing to partner with the Israeli government. The Consulate and its supporters have threatened to brand the festival as “anti-Jewish” if they decline their money. But by accepting it, and ignoring the voices and the lives of Palestinian queers, Frameline has shown itself to be anti-queer.

Shame on Frameline! All Queers Count!

Israeli Queers for Palestine, Palestinian Queers for BDS, Arab Resource and Organizing Center, International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, Middle East Children’s Alliance

Contact Frameline and tell them to be on the right side of history. They know it’s the right thing to do. They just need to know that the community will stand behind them if they do it. An email is good but a phone call is better: 415-703-8650 Jennifer@frameline.org, kcprice@frameline.org

Talking about Frameline being on the "right side" of history is nice--only if Frameline survives this awful economy and its impact on community groups and non-profits. Organizations are collapsing in the queer community because the donations and grants that supported them for years have dried up.

I know more than one group in SF has shuttered its doors. Here in Fresno, our film festival probably won't be around after this year's event. Several other community groups are on the way out. And, our Pride event almost didn't survive.

Frameline is, I suspect, dealing with fiscal reality--that it dare not turn down support.

The money was in the form of a grant to bring Tomer Heymann out to SF- his film is playing at the festival. I'm not sure why that is picket-worthy. This identity politics stuff doesn't help anyone

Executive Director KC Price specifically told several people that "We do not need the money, it is nominal." He seems to think that makes it better, that they are just trying to show support for discrimination, segregation and occupation.
