KPFA Fund Drive Totals

by Accountant
KPFA's spring fund drive raised $743,000.
The total of $743,000 in listener support from the just-completed on-air fund drive is *$83,000 MORE* than the Spring 2010 fund drive of 12 months ago - which totaled only $660,000 in listener support.

KPFA continues to make slow and steady progress towards regaining economic stability after posting a 1.2 million dollar loss in the period between 10-1-2008 and 9-30-2010.

Thank you for the fund drive report. Manager Phillips gave a Report to the Listener at 8 a.m. on May 26 and interviewed Pacifica Director Arlene Englehardt at 8 a.m. on May 27. You may listen at:
May 26 broadcast
http://www.kpfa.org/archive/id/70082

May 27 broadcast will probably be at Special Programs at
http://www.kpfa.org/programs/specialbroadcasts

You will hear the excellent responses of Phillips and Englehardt to obviously staged, contrived calls from the Hate Pacifica Gang, the ones who hired a Republican Party law firm, Dhillon & Smith, whose plaintiffs were Brian Edwards Tiekert, Mitch Jeserich and Lewis Sawyer, to sue Pacifica, a struggling non-profit charity, over the staff election, which if there was a problem could easily be redone as it only involved some 200 people.

Andrew Phillips is obviously a sharp-minded fellow who has seen all kinds of acts. Arlene Englehardt is very articulate and knows the finances backwards and forwards, as she must to do her job. Englehardt goes over the details of the losses for the past 5 years, the cutbacks to all stations and Pacifica, the services Pacifica provides, the fact that Democracy Now is paid for by Pacifica and is the biggest fundraiser, and that anything heard in the morning raises lots of money. She also pointed out that the analysis of the February fundraiser showed an increase in morning funds. We all love the Morning Mix and expect it to return at 8 a.m. Monday, May 30. We are glad Al Jazeera has a place at Pacifica, 6 a.m. on KPFA and free information throughout the day, as Comcast refuses to carry it. We are glad that there was a 9/11 Inside Job Special for 3.5 hours on May 19, and Englehardt indicated there will be another 9/11 Inside Job Special. Phillips is very good about highlighting the nuclear holocaust that took place in Japan and how we all live in Japan because radiation spreads 360 degrees. The Morning Mix has lots of programs on the horrors of nuclear power, and we expect to hear more of the same. They also have tapes from Mumia Abu-Jamal, carry updates on the 9/11 Inside Job on Project Censored on Thursdays and much more. The changes we have heard are refreshing.

If it weren't for BET, Mitch Jeserich, the news dept. etc. raising most of the money, this fund drive would have been in the crapper.
Do the math. Callers want the Morning Show back. I do too.

The 5/27 Management Report to Lisenter is at
http://www.kpfa.org/archive/id/70127

The majority of KPFA listeners want KPFA to survive and as the Accountant above describes, we did better this spring, when we had no Morning Show, than we did last spring. THAT IS THE MATH. The majority of KPFA listeners are also appalled that the Republican Party is welcomed by the Hate Pacifica Gang to sue Pacifica, a struggling non-profit, and voice for peace, justice, the environment, socialized medicine, labor and opposing nuclear power, the death penalty, Zionism, war and all the other evils perpetrated by the private profit system. Ms. Harmeet Dhillon, the San Francisco Republican Party chair and staunch opponent of labor unions, just married a former Hate Pacifica Gang member and former Local Station Board member, Sarv Randhawa. The majority of KPFA members do NOT want the Morning Show and its Republican Party friends. The Hate Pacifica Gang claims some 900 people support their Republican Party, anti-union agenda. There are 20,000 listener-subscribers to KPFA, 300,000 listeners and 7 million people in the 9 counties of the Bay Area who are in the radio listening audience for KPFA. Clearly the MAJORITY do NOT want the Morning Show. Take your Republican-Democratic Party Hate Pacifica Gang and get off our airwaves. You are nothing more than government agents, led by Larry Bensky, former editor of the CIA publication, Paris Review, trying to destroy our radio station and radio network.
1) Sarv Rhandawa, now perhaps better known as Mr. Harmeet Dhillon, who always made his disdain for anti-capitalist leftism known to those who cared to listen, was not only one of the entrenched staff faction's (i.e., Concerned listeners/"SaveKPFA"'s) members on the KPFA Local Station Board, but he was one of their two* chosen listener representatives to the Pacific National Board for a number of years. (While I don't have time to research all the dates at the moment, he shows up as a member of the PNB at least in 2004 and 2008.)

2) Edwards-Tiekert and Jeserich didn't exactly hire San Francisco Republic Party chair (and co-chair of Lawyers for Bush in 2004), Harmeet Dhillon, to represent them in their suit against Pacifica. Rather, they accepted her free services.

* Each Local Station Board selects three of their Listener-elected members and one of their Staff-elected members to be delegates to the Pacifica National Board. Usually, whatever faction is the minority on the local board will have enough votes to choose one of the three Listener delegates, meaning that the majority faction gets to choose two Listener Delegates, along with the one Staff Delegate.

It took a long, long, long time-but finally KPFA has tough, honest, effective staff administrators who are also experienced radio executives with a community minded grasp of the KPFA Vision and Mission. Leaders who recognize and articulate the motives and fiscal liabilities of the former false leaders, staff "managers" and self absorbed staff representatives. Thus are the details behind the devils of the Concerned Listeners/Save KPFA (for themselves) group outed.

Now, about news department co-conspirators Aileen Alfandary and Mark Mericle who together have maintained a strangle hold on creative, accurate and fair news reporting for some 55 years cumulatively ...

It's pretty clear who listeners respond to at KPFA.

But don't let facts get in the way of your hate.

It's really cool how you guys keep making all these complicated bar graphs to argue that $660,000 (Spring 2010 fund drive with the old Morning Show in prime time) is more than $743,000 (Spring 20111 fund drive without it).

Looks like just like an Edwards-Tiekert budget.

No matter how you slice it, if you earn $2,000 less in the 8 to 9am hour, but $4,000 more throughout the entire 8 hour day and $80,000 more total in the fund drive effort - you have more money. If you also have lower salary expenses, then you have more money than that.

That is why the books 12 months ago said - Loss of $263,000

Now they say - gain of $79,000.

Now is better. If your goal is to pay your bills and stay afloat.

We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
