McDonalds to Replace Humans with Robot Cashiers

by John Thielking (pagesincolor [at] yahoo.com)
McDonalds is following the heels of Jack In The Box, Safeway and Lucky's and replacing human cashiers with touch screen terminals in their stores in Europe.
Whenever I visit Jack In The Box, Safeway or Lucky's I always pass up the touch screen terminals (self check out) and proceed to the nearest human cashier. My philosphy is that we need more humans running the stores and earning what meager wages they can get, not less. Now McDonalds is getting into the act of replacing human cashiers with robots at its European stores. Down with Robots! Save the humans!

To those people who were posting monkeywrenching ideas here earlier: How about coming up with a way to non-violently disrupt the functioning of these touch screen robot cashiers? Maybe just have a group of people take a really long time to go through the robot check out line during the lunch rush...or at Lucky's just have the group ask inane questions about the terminals to the supervisor who watches over them. Show the powers that be that using robots to do the work actually takes longer and is too much trouble or make them think that the average customer is too illiterate to use the self checkout terminals. Above all, if you are by yourself, boycott the robot terminals.
