► Location for Sunday, May 15 Nakba Remembering the Nakba - Celebrating Palestine: An event of Reflection on the Past and Hope for the Future. Due to weather, this event will be held at the Grand, 1215 J St. On-street parking is free, light rail at 12th & I. Displays, speakers, music, food, children's activities. FMI: cyatooma7 [at] yahoo.com; 916-346-8352.
► Reminder: Tuesday, May 17, Support War Dollars Home Resolution at City Council meeting (see calendar for details).
ALERTS:
► Contact Mayor Kevin Johnson to sign on to the War Dollars Home Resolution (& attend May 17 City Council meeting).
► Contact the Sac Food Co-op Board & General Manager and ask them to end their bias against groups wanting to table about Palestinian Human Rights. Vets for Peace, Sac Coalition for Palestinian Rights,Sac Co-op Owners for Democracy and Human Rights, Sac Peace Action and any groups associated with Sac Peace Action, have been prohibited from tabling in front of the store about Palestinian human rights or the Israeli/Palestinian issue.
However, a local Israel advocacy group was allowed to table last weekend. This means the Co-op is only allowing one point of view on this important issue to be shared. The GM says this is about alleged complaints about conduct, for which no documentation has been provided. Furthermore, if it were a conduct issue, then it should be about individual tablers, not whole groups.
But it isn't a conduct issue, it is a censorship issue. The Co-op is an important "democratic" institution in our community and should be setting an example of fairness and support for free speech, not discrimination and censorship.
