Noam Chomsky in Eugene, April 20, 2011

by Noam Chomsky
The religious faith that markets will sort everything out and are efficient (cf. Joseph Stiglitz) is overthrown. Enron, Tepco and the trillions poured out for Wall Street banks show that business undermines democracy and the market. Business does not want enlightened consumers making rational choices but unenlightened consumers making irrational choices.

_But why does he almost always end up calling for a vote for whomever the Democratics cough up as their prez Candidate ?
It would have really helped if he would have instead supported the campaigns of either Nader or McKInney .And he hasn't been 100% consistent with his Anti-Imperialism either . In the mid 90's he at first bought into the Somalia '' Peace keeping ''intervention.
Re the current attack on Libya has he been clearly opposed to that adventure ?
I do think despite these flaws the Prof. has contributed quite a bit . After all Who else on the Left can show up not only at schools like the Univ. of Oregon but even mostly conservative bastions like the Univ. of Alabama and pack the house ?
