Racist Israel has very high levels of poverty. The open discrimination against the Arab population of Israel is the same or worse than in the formerly officially segregated South of the USA. Thus, we read horrifying differences in infant mortality, etc. in Israel, despite the fact that Israel, unlike the backward USA, has universal healthcare. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_of_living_in_Israel
In general, Israel has a 20% poverty rate. The population of Historic Palestine (Israel) is 7 million, of whom 76% are Jewish, with 67% being israeli born, 23% from Europe/USA and 6% from Africa. In the combined Gaza, West Bank and Israel areas, there are 5.9 million Arabs and 5 million Jews, a sign that Zionist Israel will soon be gone, a long overdue milestone.

Israel is a colony of wealthy Zionist American swine to invest their profits extracted from American workers by paying as little as possible to Americans as profits are our stolen labor. This is also, first and foremost, a US military base to protect US military profits in the Middle East. There are constant labor strikes in Historic Palestine as the quality of life is sinking in the USA and its colonies, like Israel.

There is no separation of church and state as to marriage or divorce. To graduate from high school, one has to regurgiate the fiction of the bible. Children in grade school are trained to be soldiers; Israel is completely a military state.

Israel is a major nuclear power and is the 4th largest military power in the world, all paid for with our tax dollars. Israel does not exist for one second without American tax dollars.

History and time are with us. On this 63rd anniversary of the Nakba, the world commemorates 63 years of Palestininan resistance. World renowned conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim just visited and conducted in Gaza last week. This year on Memorial Day weekend, we commemorate the first anniversary of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and its survival of the Israel massacre, which massacre was proudly supported by the entire US government, Democrats and Republicans together, including the President, with California Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer being the one to circulate the resolution praising Israel's slaughter of the humanitarian aid workers by Israel with our tax dollars on this Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Meanwhile, the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement is growing, something unthinkable just some 10 years ago. US imperialism, and its puppets, like the Zionist government of Israel, are soon off the stage of history. For more information, see:

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappe
(2006) Oneworld Publications, ISBN 978-1-85168-555-4
(Has full details on the 1948 to present mass murder of boys and men, rape and murder of girls and women and theft of Palestinian land all planned by David Ben-Gurion, first president of Israel, and cohorts, as Ben-Gurion described in his diary quoted in Pappe’s book.)

Israel-Palestine on Record by Howard Friel and Richard Falk
(2007) Verso, ISBN 978-1-84467-109-0 (Contains eyewitness testimony for 2000 to 2006 of Israeli destruction of Palestinian homes and the horrors of daily life in Occupied Palestine due to daily Israeli terrorism, all paid for with $6 billion US tax dollars annually, making Israel the 4th largest military gang in the world).

Walled: Israeli Society at an Impasse by Sylvain Cypel
(2005, 2006) Other Press, ISBN 13:978-1-5905 1-210-4
(A good early history of the apartheid wall and history and contemporary life of Israel and its relationship to the US as a military base. The lack of separation of church and state is evident as “All Israeli students study the Hebrew Bible in public school for several hours a week, from the elementary grades through high school (knowledge of the Bible is tested on the high school exit examination.)” (p. 177) Superstition and militarism clearly go together This is a sign of an extremely backward society).

A Wall in Palestine by Rene Backman
(2006, 2010) Picador/St. Martin’s Press, NY ISBN 978-0-312-42781-8
(Good maps of the apartheid wall and description of resistance to it; it is clearly a land grab as there are means of going through wall and thus it has nothing to do with security; also describes segregated roads and racist license system).

An Israeli in Palestine by Jeff Halper (an American who moved to Israel in 1973 at age 27, is a professor of anthropology, is the leader of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and supports the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Campaign against Israel described in Appendix 4). (2008) Pluto Press, ISBN 978-0-7453-2226-1. “There is not even a civil mechanism by which Jewish, Christian, and Muslim citizens of Israel can marry each other since personal status, citizenship, marriage, death, inheritance, is regulated by religious and not civil law.” p. 76

Palestine Inside Out by Saree Makdisi, (2008, 2010) Norton Press, ISBN 978-0-393-33844-7. With a beautiful foreword by Alice Walker, comparing the racist horrors of Zionist Israel to white racism in the USA, Makdisi, a Palestinian-American professor of English literature at UCLA, writes a detailed account of the daily horrors of life in Occupied Palestine. His periodic sections “By the Numbers” offer useful statistics, his maps are plentiful, and his entire book is a ringing indictment of the mental illness that is religion and the anti-women horror of theocratic states. As Americans read it, we must remember that this is all paid for with our tax dollars and supported 100% by every single Democratic and Republican politician at every level of government. It is opposed by all socialist parties and the Green Party.

DVD-Warner Classics: The Ramallah Concert: Knowledge Is The Beginning with West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Ramallah Concert program: Mozart Sinfonia, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations. Orchestra consists of young Jewish Israelis and Arabs of many countries, including Palestine, plus some Europeans.
This area is dead on Sunday mornings. Nada, nothing. During the week yeah; it bustles.

Let's get creative and be seen by someone, Please.
by bad bad idea
No one will miss bay to breakers for this.
First, Sunday morning on May 15 is an excellent date and time for the Nakba Commemoration. BART STARTS AT 5 A.M. on that date, catering to the Bay to Breakers racket, so you can take BART to the Montgomery station and walk north on Montgomery Street. San Francisco has added buses and rerouted others. For Muni, see
http://www.sfmta.com/cms/malerts/BaytoBreakersServiceImpacts.htm

Light rain is predicted so you may want to bring an umbrella and wrap your signs in plastic. Please also bring lots of Palestinian and red flags. Sunday morning is a good time for most of us as we are not at work. As to the scene at Montgomery between California and Sacramento Street, during the week it is filled with the pro-Zionist nuts and the reactionary business types, if they think at all about Palestine. Most Americans have no interest whatsoever in Palestine. We certainly cannot close the Israeli consulate. All we can do is bring out large numbers of people, and the weekend is best for that.

What a narrow world these 60,000 participants live in that is the horror that is Bay to Breakers. Let us start with the numbers.
There are 7 MILLION PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE BAY AREA, most of whom have nothing to do with Bay to Breakers. Most of the participants are upper middle class young people from the suburbs and beyond. The winners are usually from the mountains of Kenya where the air is thin so here at sea level they run very fast. For more, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_to_Breakers

The Bay to Breakers spectacle is filled with at least 30,000 people who insist on engaging in the following illegal activities: Public drunkenness, public nudity (all men demonstrating their male chauvinism), and urination and defecation in public, often in groups, in the Golden Gate Park Panhandle and on doorsteps, with the human waste running into people's homes, all grounds for lawsuits against the City of San Francisco. The City is also liable for all the garbage strewn everywhere by the 30,000 plus people WHO NEVER RUN AT ALL.

Also occurring in San Francisco on May 15 is the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra at Symphony Hall, seating 3,000 people; Shakespeare's As You Like it at the American Conservatory Theater which may seat 1,000; and probably a school graduation at the opera house as the San Francisco is not performing on that date, which opera house seats about 4,000.

Most of the 880,000 people of San Francisco have nothing to do with Bay to Breakers. In nearby Chinatown, they are shopping on Stockton Street for food, and the same in the Mission District. Two-thirds of us are tenants who depend on rent control for a roof over our heads.

You hear all about Bay to Breakers on the capitalist TV programs because they are dedicated to the Roman Empire routine of promoting circuses instead of bread. They do film the illegal activities, but they broadcast it with a wink, as they try to claim it is harmless. It does in fact cost the people of San Francisco thousands of dollars, while we have desperate poverty. This writer is a native San Franciscan and can remember when it was a serious race; we are ashamed and outraged at the utter contempt for our City exhibited not only by the drunken hoodlums but also by the City of San Francisco in tolerating all of these illegal activities.

The serious runners, those who can run the 12 kilometers in 1 hour or less, do not observe any political signs as they are concentrating on their race. The drunken hoodlums are not the least interested in any politics. Many serious runners do not run this race because of the drunks and illegal floats.

Please make every effort to attend this important demonstration and take advantage of the extra public transportation for our cause, as well as the fact that you probably have the day off from school and work. We Americans must take every opportunity to state:
NO GENOCIDE IN OUR NAME AND WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS.

by just wondering
Who is organizing this? Are speakers planned? Is there a sound permit? This has not been endorsed by any civil justice organization in the Bay area, nad I'm personally very skeptical

More Info May 15, will mark 63 years of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe). In 1948, more than 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homeland by Zionist forces, with more than 500 Palestinian villages depopulated and destroyed. Today more than 7 million Palestinian refugees, the largest refugee community in the world, are living in exile. Israel continues to colonize and ethnically cleanse Palestinian land through occupation and war.

On the 63rd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba please join the Bay Area Palestinian community and their supporters for a community rally. This rally is being held in support of the aspirations of the Palestinian people in their request for freedom, human rights, dignity, and overall the right to return to their homeland.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
