Mesherle likely to be released in early June
Johannes Mesherle, the former police officer who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of BART passenger Oscar Grant on New Years day 2009, will likely walk free from jail in June
Former BART Police officer Johannes Mesherle will likely be granted an early release from prison during a June 1st hearing in a LA Superior court, while only serving less than a year of a two year sentence. The video tapped shooting sparked a serious of protests and riots in Oakland in 2009 and 2010. Mesherle's early release will likely be met with similar protests, and according to a news interview with Oscar Grant's uncle, Cephus Johnson, a community response is already being planned.
