SF Planning and the TIDA members agree to develop Treasure Island under suspect conditions
The San Francisco Planning Department that is 4 out of 7 members and the entire Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) voted to develop Treasure Island. Treasure Island is man made, sinking about three inches every years and very contaminated. The U.S.Navy as it has at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - contaminated Treasure. The activities that took place on Treasure Island - are very similar, to the activities that took place on the Shipyard. In fact the name before was Treasure Island the Hunter Point Shipyard Annex. Plans are afoot to build tall buildings, and encourage density - none of this should take place on this site. The entire area is - prone to liquefaction, flooding, has no concrete transportation plan, and what is more does not take into consideration - a large Tsunami - knowing full well that Treasure Island is the site - that will bare the full brunt of any Tsunami - also a major Earthquake.
Yesterday, April 22, 2011 - at 6 pm the SF Planning Department and the entire Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) decided to have a joint meeting to decide the development of Treasure Island. This dubious meeting planned during the Easter and Passover days - when most folks spiritual have other family commitments.
The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that was presented and discussed in a nonchalant manner has major flaws. In fact there are no many changes to the development plans shown before in the years 2003, 2006, 2009, and now in the year 2011 - that as some of the SF Planing Commissioners noted - this EIR should be re-visited.
In the past Christina Olague, Kathrin Moore, and Hisashi Sugaya all astute SF Planning Commissioners have sided with the community and voted their conscience - and they voted down the final EIR on Hunters Point Shipyard and they did it again - yesterday on Treasure Island. Kudos to them.
The other SF Planning Commissioners Ron Miguel, Michael Antonini, Gwyneth Borden, and Rodney Fong - all appointees of the Mayor of San Francisco - voted for the diabolical development of Treasure Island.
I did not attend the hearing as I had some pressing work to do and a very tight schedule to fulfill.
Missing in the deliberations as usually happens when I am not present - the pertinent discussion about the First People.
The Ohlone in this case and the hundreds of remains that have been found and continue to be found, the remains removed from the Yerba Buena site and then taken under cloudy circumstances to be buried elsewhere.
Monitors with dubious links pretending to represent the ancestors, cooperating with the developers and further adding insult to the subject at hand.
It is essential in all these deliberations that those Big Developers - that I openly call Rogue Developers learn to respect to the Native Americans that I prefer to call the First People of this land. In this case the Ohlone.
All over California and in recent days in Vallejo at Glen Cove - the First People at staking Sacred Sites where they know the "strangers" are meddling with the remains of their ancestors. The Grand Father watches all and in due time - those that desecrate will be punished - and that punishment will be very - severe. Thousands times the adverse impacts - that some saw first hand and the world witnessed over and over again - in what happen in Japan very recently.
TIDA members are not worthy their salt.
We have seen them falter in the famous deliberation when they ganged up against Tony Hall when he was put in charge of Treasure Island. We have reviewed thousands of pages in past years - and found TIDA failing in accountability and transparency. Our SF Ethic Commission has failed the people on this one - and here we see a glaring example of a body - with little or no - accountability and less standards.
Can you imagine these so called TIDA members giving themselves a pat on the back - bearing their behinds - and displaying for all the world to see their abject arrogance and ignorance - on such a frail, ill planned, lacking standards - project.
Failing to pay heed to the three astute SF Planning Commissioners - who reveal to them the facts and shed some light on their ignorance and arrogance?
The one TIDA member - representing the SF Plumbers Union - he and his father had access to the Plumbers Union dues - invested it is some Real Estate and plunder the money!
Yet, here was this guy - portending to know much - talking about jobs - when he and his ilk - plundered the coffers of his own Plumbers Union Members - if that is not a shame, I do not know what is?
Linda Richardson giving us a list of her achievements - all under the umbrella of her mentor - Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. The world knows about this ethics and failing, morals.
It is such dubious folks that lack standards - that are really incompetent but are appointed on such boards. Such as the dubious Treasure Island Development Authority - that have no idea about real planning, less social planning - and as we all know the in and outs of fiscal astuteness. Very essential in these dire economic times.
The SF Redevelopment is history. Its demise could not have come at a better time - perfect timing by Governor Jerry Brown of California.
But, guess what if you conduct a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) on Linda Richardson - you will see within the last four months she was given money by the SF Redevelopment Agency - for some consultant work. Where there is money to be made, some udder to be milked - there you will have Linda Richardson. Who keeps jumping from Commission to Commission doing the devil's work.
We know as of now the SF Redevelopment Agency and its immoral SF Redevelopment Commission is history. But, this that evil institution the many minions - the many of them are had no compassion, lied and did untold damage. Tiffany Bohee and her cohorts.
This quasi- State agency was told by Governor Jerry Brown to fold. All funds linked to all Redevelopment Agencies will now be sent to the local governments to address education, health, safety, transportation, environmental issues, and so forth.
The SF Redevelopment Agency did not expect this huge blow - surely not at this juncture.
As many know I was at the fore-front to provide the empirical data on the SF Redevelopment Agency.
In fact the latest Governor's of California's web site - has my article of Infrastructure Financing Districts - that the Mayor's Office of Economic Development and Work Force - wants to use as a model - to jump start the many projects that have been "moth balled" linked to SF Redevelopment Agency.
First and foremost there has been no meaningful dialog Citywide about the Infrastructure Financing Districts - in all of our Eleven Neighborhood Districts in San Francisco.
Secondly, some Big Developers are pushing for this model that does not have a proven track record.
Using this little tried model - one can technically get about 65 cents on a dollar and this is only because in our case we are a City and County of San Francisco. If you are just a City your returns can be as little as 15 cents and at the most 25 cents.
Again, the State of California has a large deficit - and does not want to visit any such ploys - it is the same snake different head - the snake being SF Redevelopment Agency and the many former employees that are seeking work. Most of them lack ethical standards.
The same holds good for the Mayor's Office of Housing under Doug Shoemaker, the Mayor's Office of Economic Development and Work Force and the many MAMBAS that dwell in these offices.
Tired of wasting millions of dollars linked to the Stimulus Money - on projects that the Mayor's Office of Economic Development and Work Force - tagged as "Shovel Ready" - these folks are now using; the Infrastructure Financing Districts - as a ploy to generate work and keep themselves employed and garner a fat City Check - some making over $200,000 with benefits. This nonsense must stop.
On another level; nothing is happen at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and the proposed 10,500 homes. Lennar is seeking developers to dump the project - 10 cents on a dollar - and guess what there are no takers.
In San Francisco where we have a population of about 816,000 there are over 30,000 vacant homes - in this tightly squeezed seven by seven miles area.
We have large areas - where we have what we call Public Housing - the poor Blacks and the Samoans - who have contributed to this City and County of San Francisco - are being evicted. No compassion is shown and none of them in numbers were present at the Treasure Island Development Authority hearing to comment.
We did not hear from our Veterans that must be provided quality homes - we send them to war, treat them like dirt, and then continue to spit on them. Shame on San Francisco. I say this having worked at the Presidio of San Francisco and having provided quality housing and rehabilitation space to our Veteran - Swords to the Plow Share for those ignorant that want to know.
The paradox is this - all these sites; be it Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, the the large sites all former military sites belong to the people the taxpayers. Should be kept to provide housing for our Veterans, our teachers, our SF Fire Personnel, our SF Police and so on.
The people are left out - the Rogue Developers brought in - and project after project have outside consultants and thug consultants - like Platinum Consultants - you pay these thugs and you get a project.
Mayor Ed Lee know about this and does not have the balls to do anything.
In the case of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard we had a parallel SF Planning Group led by Dean Macris.
Paid by Lennar to push its project. It failed because the present Economy got it by the throat. We also got Governor Jerry Brown initiate laws to see to the demise of the Redevelopment Agency - known for its gentrification, eviction, inhumanity, lacking compassion, and an Agency that adversely impacted "people of color" - leading thousands to their deaths. Mayor Ed Lee can beg all he can to restore funds to SF Redevelopment Agency at the behest of Willie L/ Brown Jr. and Rose Park - but, it will not happen. Ever again.
All this in San Francisco. The City named after Saint Francis Assisi and known for his compassion to all life - human, animals, birds you name it.
" No good ever will come at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and the same at Treasure Island".
Stop your gimmicks and be reasonable but you cannot expect that of folks that are immoral, lack ethics, have no standards - and are low down hyenas filled with fleas to serve those that need help - especially those that need quality - shelter.
