We Are One - Stephanie Bloomingdale of AFL/CIO Speaks in Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza: video
On April 4th, over 1000 "We Are One" solidarity actions were held across the U.S. to stand with the workers of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and other states where union rights have recently come under direct attack by governors and legislators. At Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of Oakland's City Hall, perhaps a thousand union members or more and their supporters gathered in solidarity and to protest the increasing attacks on labor across the U.S. In the video here, Stephanie Bloomingdale of the Wisconsin ALF-CIO and the AFT speaks of the struggle in Wisconsin and the growing worker solidarity nationwide.
Stephanie Bloomingdale tells of sleeping on the statehouse floor and her amazement as the number of demonstrators increased so rapidly in Madison, reaching over 100,000. She goes on to note that she certainly did not expect to be speaking in Oakland less than two months after the first Wisconsin protests and the encouragement she feels as resistance to attempts to bust unions continues to grow across the country.
