There is an effort in Wisconsin right now to organize a General Strike in response to the bill passed by Gov. Walker which strips public unions of their collective bargaining rights as well as severe cuts in pay and benefits (in the form of requiring more personal contributions to healthcare etc.)Added to the calendar on Tuesday Mar 15th, 2011 3:55 PM
The IWW branches in Madison and Milwaukee have played a leading role in formulating and carrying this demand.
The Bay Area branch of the IWW is therefore issuing a call to all members of the working class community here to come join us for an open forum to discuss strategies for solidarty actions as well as widening the movement to here in California.
Gov. Brown may not be making such a direct attack on the public unions, but with his proposed budget cutting so much from essential social services and higher education, he is in lockstep with Gov. Walker in ATTACKING THE WORKING CLASS.
WE ENCOURAGE ALL TO ATTEND, NO MATTER YOUR GROUP AFFILIATION. THIS MOVEMENT MUST BE BROAD TO SURVIVE.
AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!
