Malcolm X Elementary School at the corner of Ellis and Ashby Ave

We are using art to bring visibility to our invisible school zone.
We have been trying for YEARS to get safety improvements to this area.
We are averaging one hit every 14 months - we are now overdue.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars are currently in an excruciatingly slow and bureaucratic process awaiting coordination between city transportation and engineering departments and CalTrans. These funds are for flashing pedestrian beacons and other major improvements to our school zone.
Lives depend upon swift action NOW.
We are desperate to make immediate changes before anyone is injured or killed at Ellis and Ashby. We refuse to grieve a preventable death.
It is important to keep our community walking and rolling! Please come with protest signs - Dont Hit Me, It's my commute too! The way you drive, keeps me alive! Slow down, School zone, Slow when children are present, School zone ahead. Thank you for your commitment to safety on our campus and in our community.
