AF3IRM Los Angeles Calls for Women to March Against the War
this International Women's Day!
...
AF3IRM is calling for and coordinating a protest against continued U.S. military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan on March 8th, International Women's Day.
On the 8th year of the U.S. war on Iraq, the United States will spend $1 trillion to continue its criminal occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. While the U.S. spends approximately $700 million each day, social services, education, and healthcare are taking cuts; $12.5 billion alone in the state of California. "As a pink-slipped teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District and an organizer in the women's movement, I know that right now is the most important time for us to mobilize against this war. We were out in the streets when the U.S. first invaded Iraq, and we will continue to do so to highlight the impact of this war on women's lives," said Carolina Valdez, AF3IRM Los Angeles member.
With women facing unemployment, denied access to vital services, and facing unprecedented sexual assault in the military - where 1 in 3 are harassed or raped - AF3IRM sees that now more than ever, we have to mobilize to stop these U.S. imperialist wars. "There's no better way to commemorate International Women's Day than to fight for the basic rights of women - employment, services, education, housing, and the right to life instead of rape and death under U.S. militarism," said Jollene Levid, AF3IRM National Chairperson.
