The Planning Commission has approved the controversial Parkmerced redevelopment plan by a 4-3 vote. The plan directly violates city policy regarding the demolition of sound rental housing. To justify the demolitions, supporters of the project are using a playbook that is familiar to residents of neighborhoods like the Western Addition and other redevelopment zones. From the start, advocates of the project have mischaracterized the existing homes and community at Parkmerced in an effort to pave the way for demolition.
