Book talk with Amer Araim, imam at Dar al'Islam Mosque in Concord and faculty member of the political science department of Diablo Valley College, on his latest book Understanding Islam: 50 Questions. Dr. Araim, an Iraqi-American, moved to the US in 1978 to take a post in the UN Secretariat. Prior to this, he was a law student at Baghdad University and then worked for the Iraqi foreign service. In 1999, he became an imam and as such has always been concerned with interfaith issues and the integration of Muslims into the US society. He is a member of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County and one of the founders of Islamic Outreach of California.
