A Community for Direct Public Health invites you out to
An evening of….
Overdose Prevention and Training presentation by us and video by Chicago Recovery Alliance Harm Reductionists Brief timeline: In 1895 Bayer Corporation invented and sold a cough suppressant in a bottle over the counter. It contained heroin. It was shortly after outlawed. By 1914 it was criminalized non-clinically too distribute any opiates or opioids. Since then, heroin surged the U.S., especially in the 1970’s during the Vietnam War. This is an age of easy access to harder more synthetic drugs. Over a hundred years of a system hell-bent on the evils of natural earth based psychotropics. Poor communities are most effected by this. Budget cuts, no jobs, and foreclosures reap our misery. And we wonder why escapisms and socio-economic disparity have developed and class war is apparent and HERE. Heroin and Opiates are used more now than ever in recorded U.S. history and makes there way to the states from Afghanistan now more since the 1980’s. Opioids like Oxycontin, Percocet, and dilaudid are so accessible from the street corners to the friend next door to doctors writing scripts for sunburns. 70 people a day die from accidental overdose. These people are victims of a stigmatized society and a relentless and useless drug war. Do It Yourself Prevention and Education is the best way we can help out those that use intravenously.
