The sooner Gavin Newsom leaves the better. He leaves San Francisco City Hall in a mess - having made deals with David Chiu, Bevan Dufty, and Sophie Maxwell. Behind the scenes he has been busy trying to figure out - how to handover the Mayoral position to Angela Alioto. His ploy to bring Ed Lee into the picture is a machination to foil and bluff those progressives - who cannot see through this devious person. Gavin Newsom the metro sexual - will do anything to attain fake power and stay there. Friday, some drab decision will be made - but, that is not the end of the story.
Gavin Newsom for the longest time has been courting Bevan Dufty, Sophie Maxwell, and David Chiu.
The progressives really have no leader and they really have no strategy - short term or long term.
Ross Mirkarimi could fall by the way side anytime for example. So, could Eric Mar if he wants to. And we saw - the about turn that David Chiu did in front of the whole world.
David Campos, John Avalos, and Chris Daly are on shaky ground - mostly, because they talk too much and cannot think straight. Too much verbosity is bad. Much like an empty vessel making too much - noise. You must walk the walk.

David Chiu will take the position of District Attorney because he wants it. As and when he does that - Gavin Newsom will have the door open and he can do as he pleases. He could easily appoint Angelo Alioto and tell Ed Lee to keep his present job. Ed makes more money in his present job as City Administrator and what is more can handle that job - better then anyone.
The point is when Gavin removes David Chiu from the equation - he, Gavin can do as he pleases. Chris, Sophie, Michela, and Bevan will be history. The Progressive will have no sway. Gavin the consummate LIAR and corrupt to the CORE - will do as he - pleases.
In 1996 when Willie L Brown Jr., the thug Mayor of San Francisco changed the City Charter - one of the things he did - clip the wings of the City Administrator at that time - Bill Lee and brought that office under the Executive Branch.
