Hello World. We are Anonymous. What you do or do not know about us is irrelevant. We have decided to write to you, the media, and all citizens of the free world to inform you of our intentions, potential targets, and our ongoing, active campaign for the freedom of information exchange, freedom of expression, and free use of the Internet.

A Letter from Anonymous: Our Message, Intentions, and Potential Targets

Hello World. We are Anonymous. What you do or do not know about us is irrelevant. We have decided to write to you, the media, and all citizens of the free world to inform you of our intentions, potential targets, and our ongoing, active campaign for the freedom of information exchange, freedom of expression, and free use of the Internet.

"True, This! —
Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword. Behold
The arch-enchanters wand! — itself a nothing! —
But taking sorcery from the master-hand
To paralyse the Cæsars, and to strike
The loud earth breathless! — Take away the sword —
States can be saved without it!"

- The Cardinal
Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy by: Edward Bulwer-Lytton

“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.”
~George Orwell

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.”
--Galileo Galilei

Our message is clear:

We support the free flow of information. Anonymous is actively campaigning for this goal everywhere in all forms. This necessitates the freedom of expression for: The Internet, for journalism and journalists, and citizens of the world. Though we recognize you may disagree, we believe that Anonymous is campaigning for you so that your voice may never be silenced.

The recent news of our campaigns has been, at best, misinformed. We are not a terrorist organization as governments, demagogues, and the media would have you believe. Rather, Anonymous is a spontaneous collective of people who share the common goal of protecting the free flow of information on the Internet. Our ranks are filled with people representative of many parts of the world and all political orientations. We can be anyone, anywhere, anytime. If you are in a public place right now, take a look over your shoulder: everyone you see has all the requirements to be an Anon. But do not fret, for you too have all the requirements to stand with those who fight for free information and accountability.

Accordingly, Anonymous is not always the same group of people: Anonymous is a living idea. Anonymous is an idea that can be edited, updated, remanded--changed on a whim. We are living consciousness. At this time, Anonymous is a consciousness focused on actively campaigning for the free flow of information and accountability by our public institutions. We ask the world to support us, not for our sake, but for your own. When governments and corporations control information they control you. When governments are allowed the power of censorship, they are able to commit great atrocities and act in corrupt ways --free from the scrutiny of those from whom their power derives. When corporations are capable of using their vast amounts of wealth to manipulate or influence the free flow of information, they control you. We are taking a stand against this--we refuse to be deceived!

The Internet is one of the last bastions of the free flow of information in our evolving information society, and one that is capable of connecting us all. Through the Internet, all the people of the world have access to information. When we all have access to information, we are strong. When we are strong, we posses the power to do the impossible--to make a difference, to better our world. This is why the government is moving on Wikileaks. This is what they fear. They fear our power when we unite. Please, do not forget this.

Our intention is just:

The intention of Anonymous is to protect free flow of information of all types from the control of any individual, corporation, or government entity. We will do this until our proverbial, dying breath. We do this not only for our selves, but for the citizens of the world. We are people campaigning at this very moment for your freedom of information exchange, freedom of expression, and free use of the Internet. Please remember this as you watch the news, read posts on Twitter, comment on Youtube or Facebook, or send email to a friend or loved one: Anonymous is making every effort to defend free speech and free information on the Internet.

We ask for the attention of the world as the events that are unfolding are fundamentally influencing the course of history. Anonymous' campaign will defend against any individual, organization, corporation, and/or government entity that seeks to hinder the free flow of information on the Internet and beyond. Our methods may appear to be unjustly burdening our targets, but we argue that in this moment when the Freedom of Speech is under attack by the very institutions which are supposed to support it, drastic measures must be taken. During the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, access to many businesses was blocked as a peaceful protest against segregation. Today much business is conducted on the Internet. We are using the LOIC to conduct distributed denial of service attacks against businesses that have aided in the censorship of any person. Our attacks do no damage to the computer hardware. We merely take up bandwidth and system resources like the seats at the Woolworth's lunch counter.

Please, do not despise us, as we are not the Anonymous that you may be familiar with. Anonymous' past is not our present. May we remind you that Anonymous is a dynamic entity. Furthermore, anything attributed, credited, or tagged to Anonymous is not always based on the consensus of us as a whole. Even the document you read now was written by at least ten people simultaneously. Anonymous' campaign does not intend to harm websites of the individual citizen, organization, or government, that supports the free flow of information. We are here for all of you; to campaign for all of you. Where others have made this promise and failed, we make this promise and aim to keep it for everyone. Anonymous wishes to defend the free flow of information on the Internet and beyond; We would like to ask that you as a citizen, organization, media organization, or government do the same. Any individual, organization, corporation,and/or government entity which supports Freedom of Speech and a free Internet is an ally of Anonymous.

Our method of choosing targets is simple:

We are against anyone who supports censorship, such as those who are responsible for the silencing of Wikileaks.
We are against any entity that work towards the defilement of free speech and/or the free flow of information.

Our request of you is simple.
We ask you to consider the value of your natural Freedoms.
We ask you to consider the value of free information for you and future generations.
We ask you to consider the implications of information censorship, be it through the Internet or physical speech.
We ask you to consider the future of your own human rights, as those who wish to take these rights from you now will not stop with this.

Signed,

Anonymous

Transparency is the only way to promote World Peace... this is so obvious.
So I say YES to attacking anyone who prevents transparency.

Transparency in government is a crucial key to accountability!
Without accountability, all we have is biased anarchy!

When you anger the people, when you try to tell us lies, when you try to censor the press, when you try to infringe our basic rights, you will not walk away with impunity. We *will* make our voices heard, and we will make our message hurt where it matters. And we will not relent until we are satisfied that injustice has been corrected.

You may have power, you may have money, but there are countless millions of us and only so many of you. Each day our numbers rise as more people become aware of the lies they have been fed and turn to join our cause.

If you are against freedom of information, or you hinder our efforts, you *will* hear from us.

Long live freedom, long live anonymous.

Is it ever legitimate to limit another person's free speech?

If not, why did Anonymous limit Joe Lieberman's and Sarah Palin's speech via taking down their website?

Because what they said opposed your position? Because they made poor arguments? (Certainly, they did.)

Yet what's the difference between that and censorship?

Does Anonymous think it's permissible to limit free speech only when you're trying to defend free speech?

You must realize that our intention is not to attack people, but to defend our freedoms. When the government tries to limit us, we must fight back. Limiting the flow of information will not only destroy contact with vital informaties, but will also cause a rebellion on a much larger scale than the recent "attacks". We were born with free speech, and if anyone has any common sense in the government, amending the constitution to limit our online capabilities, will do more harm than good. We will be watching.

Great job. I support Anonymous in all ways, as they are doing what I believe is the right thing. Wikileaks posting the U.S. cables to other countries was wrong, to me, but in all else I support Anonymous for defending the freedom of information flow. I ask you, Anonymous, to email me and tell me anything I could do to help.

Something is very WRONG with mainstream media. I would like to see Wikileaks go forth and EXPOSE! Assange is being detained illegally on charges that do not hold water. Shame on the mainstream for not doing the job Wikileaks is.

I forgot to add that Google searches do not work easily for Wikileaks or Anonymous. Just wondering...........has sensorship begun? I know so. The TSA, DHS,FBI, Etc., already are watching and listening. Wikileaks must go forth.

In Total agreement of what has been said in the Manifesto, would also like to mention the Student protests in London, Seems that the little people won't sit down & be held to ransom any more. to paraphrase Churchill
"We will Fight them on the internet, we will fight them in the streets, we will fight them every step of the way, We will never surrender"

Once the shout goes out lets see who has the courage to pick it up & return victorious.....

I did support Anonymous, well, I was Anonymous until they attacked me for literally no reason at all and posted all my details and pictures onto they're *website*

They attacked me for no reason at all, they did say they were going to kill me but that was back at the start of 2010.

They attack many women, and women do not have freedom of speech on that website. If they know it's a woman (Legit or not) well, Anonymous knows what they say and do...

They've got a good thing going at the moment with the freedom of speech, I just wouldn't trust them all the time...

The work your group is undertaking is a mammoth task and is to be commended. Many freemen and women have throughout the centuries have fought and died when taking on the systems, institutions and powerbrokers of our world in the name of freedom. Their names and deeds are often unknown, their histories never to be told.

The freedom to access information is one of the only ways citizens can moniter the activities of governments and corporations. When denied the right to access to information, we become ignorant. I have no so such wish to join the ranks of the ignorant.

If your group does engage the enemy, do so with open eyes.
Impervise, adapt, and overcome.
Do not show mercy, for none shall be shown to you.
Be ready to make peace, even with those with whom you may not favour.
Strenghten your ranks with quality over quantity.
Do not fear having to authorise attacks that may affect more than just your intended target.
This is filed under the 'shit happens' title.
Hurt the enemy from within their own ranks. sowing seeds of doubt and distrust amongst thy enemies.
When your enemy attacks, hold the line, they will try and break it and you often through brilliant stratigic planning. (there is nothing wrong in acknowleding the enemies past accomplishments. If one really wishes to kill the beast, it must be studied, even admired, then killed without hesitation or mercy)

My dearest hope is that your group will organise and implement an appriopriate stratigic plan.

your point is vaild. What are the limits of free speech and who gets to decide?

But....
if you dont know why sara Palin was targeted let me help you out. She MAY have been targeted because she said something to the effect that, Mr Assange should be hunted down and killed using,...I believe those, oh so lovely predator drones and a number of US special ops.

I hope this helps.

You idiot.

We are all part of the same system, and we shall defend it at any cost.

Some of us may do immoral activities, others may be saints.
Our full support of every action by the entire group without questioning it is not the Anonymous way.
Anonymous is the free will of all individuals to chose the actions they believe are right.
Support the actions of anonymous which you think are moral or believe in.
Do not support the actions you disagree with, it is your right as a fellow anon.

However we should all defend the group as a whole. What starts as a protest movement will grow into an institution (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/institution) over time.
Anonymous is designed so we can make our choices independently but will produce a net benefit when joined by Many. Others may attempt to attack our group by any means.
Be ready, and be strong fellow Anons!

Get over it. Anonymous is making a lot of noise these days but that's all they are doing.

If you have your way the only result will be laws that regulate the Internet. That is, if you could actually hack into a a corporation rather than just spam it. Give me a break and grow the fuck up.

Anonymous, denial of attacks are not real effective. They only affect a website for a short time. If you guys are as good as you say then make the freedom haters hurt. Anarchy is no good for anyone. What your stated goals. Here are are good for everyone. Use your Legion and your abilities to actually accomplish something. After reading this, if it is true, I am glad you're in the ranks of the OWS. I say this with all due respect, for you are protecting me as well as my grandchildren and my friends.

Good luck, my friends. I hope you go strong and intelligent. I hope you help the whole world.

Hi guys,

I admire your work although I don't agree with it entirely, but that is another matter. This aside, I'd like to ask you if there is any way you could publish information about people earning mad money out of animal suffering? Like chicken farms, pig farms etc. I know you must have been asked this many times before, but I thought I should ask anyway, since I have no other recourse. Thank you in any case for the work you're doing already,

Hi guys, nice work you did , but now i am curious about Facebook .... Where is the individual freedom , if a social network cans abuse the data from individuals to use their photos and tracing them all over the world ? If this was done by a governement would you react the same way or is it working together with facebook ?
