Return to El Salvador - Documentary
The film Return to El Salvador represents the power and audacity of solidarity and challenges North Americans to question the global impact of their government on struggling nations.
Over 75,000 people were killed during the 12-year conflict (from 1980 to 1992) between the Salvadoran Army and the leftist Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farabundo_Mart%C3%AD_National_Liberation_Front A staggering number of civilian deaths occurred as the Salvadoran Army bombed and raided villages thought to be sympathetic to the FMLN. Many of these Salvadoran Army soldiers were trained and supported by the United States military at its School of the Americas http://www.soaw.org {org. watching them) or http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=131732686846097#!/group.php?gid=47705697021 (now known as WHINSEC), located in Ft. Benning, Georgia. (Being protested through Sun. and beyond http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=131732686846097 )
Return to El Salvador examines what drives over 700 Salvadorans to flee their homeland each day, often risking their lives, to illegally enter countries in search of a better life for their families. It explores the hopes of the Salvadoran people and walks with them in their journey.
This special screening is sponsored by the Task Force on the Americas. A $5-10 donation is requested. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information call 415/924-3227 or go to http://www.mitfamericas.org. david quinley on facebookand twitter
