Save KPFA/Concerned Listeners - A Weird Way to Support KPFA

by Scratching My Head
The work of a nonprofit board is to dramatically read emails on a sidewalk?
10_years_of_kpfa_finances_-_graph.pdf_600_.jpg
With more than a little irony, the Concerned Listeners/Save KPFA group requested the December meeting of KPFA's Local Station Board be shortened by 60% (apparently because they can't figure out any actual work for the board to do), while sending on the very same day an email broadside to their supporters to turn out tomorrow for a "dramatic sidewalk reading of emails".

"JOIN SaveKPFA outside of Pacifica's offices at 1925 MLK Jr Way in Berkeley (next door to KPFA) for a DRAMATIC PUBLIC READING of some of the letters listeners have sent to Pacifica's executive director Arlene Engelhardt"

If you'd like to see a little more work and a little less theater, comments can be sent to votesavekpfa [at] gmail.com.

Although they are unlikely to be selected for dramatic sidewalk intoning.

KPFA is dead, get over it and move on. Create something that actually appeals to contemporary progressives.

Now let's get on with more important things.

I think it's great that Tracy Rosenberg (characteristically incognito) reminds us about that SaveKPFA at one point operated as Concerned Listeners. It reminds me that the people whom had family members brainwashed by the People's Temple formed a group called Concerned Relatives.

I don't know why ICR's objectives remind me so much of Jim Jones's...

Speaking of Jim Jones, 'ukexica', why have most of the Concerned Listeners/entrenched staff faction been among those who worked hard to get people to drink Obama Kool-Aid? It may not physically kill most of the people who drink it, but it kills them as serious social beings, and has indirectly caused thousands of times as many actual physical deaths as the Jim Jones Kool-Aid cost.
KPFA controls a 59,000-watt transmitter that can reach somewhere between 5 million and 10 million* potential listeners. The struggle to get as much subversive, activist and radical programming as possible broadcast by that transmitter, especially at times like 7 - 9 am when a lot more people listen, is one of the most important fights leftists in the Bay Area can engage in.

Of course, part of what is necessary is to get information about the best programming and when it's on out to actual and potential revolutionaries who may not know about KPFA, or at least not know about its more radical programming.

* I couldn't find any precise figures. Can anybody provide more info on this?
Check it 18 miinutes in. the first 4 mnutes of the show are good. the rest is good, some will appeal more to some than others, but starting 18 minutes in, you can hear the whole rest of the world go silent. Or maybe that's just those of us who love this station as much as I do. And new, NON-SELF-appointed network: http://www.supportkpfa.org

I'm surprised that a self-described anti-racist doesn't grasp the hypocrisy in utilising the "Obama Kool-Aid' trope.
by That is Hysterical
That is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Couldn't be a more apt description of the 40 damp individuals sadly circling KPFA earlier today.
by Won't you please...?

Won't you please tell us how to pronounce "ukexica"?
